The focus of this training is health information; however, the same principles may be applied to all types of private data. It is recommended as a resource for those who are responsible for other types of private data.
Go to TrainingThe U.S. Department of Education requires that institutions receiving federal funds provide FERPA training and other resources to their employees. This course will provide a basic understanding of FERPA and how it applies to students at UF and its components. After completing this course, employees will have a basic knowledge of the rights students are afforded by FERPA, and of the obligations imposed by FERPA on UF employees to protect student information.
Go to TrainingInstructor-led. This module covers the guidelines that patient care observers must be aware of and abide by when observing patients. An individual outside of the UF Health Shands system that wishes to observe patient care, must complete this training prior to observing patients.
Go to TrainingUF actively limits and protects the personally identifiable information, which includes SSNs, cardholder data, consumer reports, and similar financial data. The federal Red Flags Rule requires certain entities to implement an Identity Theft Prevention Program which includes training individuals about how to identify, detect and respond to a “red flag” or indication of potential identity theft. Lastly, Florida Public Records Law limits state agencies’ use or collection of SSNs for purposes authorized or mandated by law or pursuant to a business imperative. This module provides Identity Theft Prevention training and acceptable use and collection of SSNs.
